What we do
Change the World RVA is a 501(c)3 established to support high school and college students in Richmond, Virginia who are experiencing homelessness and housing instability. We partner with an army of volunteers, churches, and organizations to make a meaningful difference in the lives of homeless youth. We are an all-volunteer organization. We are the only organization in the region that specifically addresses the needs of high school and college students experiencing homelessness.
Christmas is our favorite celebration of the year, and 2020 looked very different. Instead of gathering around the tree in our fluffy socks, opening gifts, eating dinner together, and having our Christmas sleepover, we celebrated on Zoom. Thank you so much to everyone who helped with gifts, stockings, cookies, gift cards, and love!
We love our village...
Thank you to Centenary United Methodist Church for becoming our forever home. It is great to be downtown and to be blessed with your warmth and generosity. Click here to see a few photos of our beautiful new space. We can't wait to return in 2021.
Thank you, and a sad farewell, to our friends at VanGo Transportation. Our program turned the corner when you began safely getting our students home each night. You made our annual adventures possible, too. Stephanie, and all the good folks...we are so grateful, and we wish you the best.
Thank you to Tom Leonard's Farmers Market for making us their Wishing Well charity. Stop by their Short Pump location and toss some change in the wishing well. Tom Leonard's will match all donations.
Huge thank-you to the folks at Bon Air Soap Company! Their grand opening raffle proceeds will help us help some terrific young people.
Thank you to our friends at the River City Rotary for helping us spiff up our space as we anxiously await our reopening in October, 2021!
We are still swooning over the generosity of photographer Heidi Abbott and the Richmond Art Garage for their donation from their opening show. Thank you!
Thank you to Gilman Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing for their generous donation!
Our Birthday Card Brigade sent hundreds of cards to our students this year! Thank you so much to Debbie Chichester for her love & diligence that make it possible.
We have so much to be grateful for. We thank you for your interest & support!
Connect with our students!
We are always busy planning exciting adventures and opportunities for our students. Here are a few ways that you can help our students and make a connection with some really outstanding young people. There is a lot more information on this web site, especially the "How to Help" pages.
Donate purses and jewelry for "Another Woman's Treasure." In April 2019, we celebrated our 5th anniversary of this Richmond shopping tradition.
Become a volunteer driver.
Join the Birthday Card Brigade.
Invite us to speak at your church, organization, or community group. We love doing this on Zoom, too!
When COVID is behind us, we encourage you to take a student shopping. Take a student on a college visit. Take a student out to lunch!
